Regulation in Ontario

Regulation is defined as “governance or control by act of law” for the purposes of:

  • ensuring standards for competency and safety of care, professionalism, and ethical conduct are in place.
  • providing protection to the public using health care services and ensuring they are treated with sensitivity and respect.
  • providing for a fair and transparent mechanism for dealing with complaints from the public and with potential misconduct by a member of a health profession.
Although not a goal of regulation, achievement of regulation will increase our visibility and credibility with the public and potentially with the insurance industry, other professions and with the medical community.

Regulation will also refute the misrepresentation of some health care disciplines that we are not qualified to perform our specialized skill set and our function within the provincial footcare model.
